Team Leader
Team Leader – Children’s Residential Home (Learning Disabilities & Complex Needs)
Location: Hucknall
Hours: 37 hours per week, averaged over the month (including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-ins).
Salary: £32,000-£38,000 depending on experience.
- Lead and support care staff during shifts, ensuring smooth and safe daily operations.
- Build trusting, therapeutic relationships with children and young people.
- Promote a child-centred approach in all aspects of care and decision-making.
- Contribute to care planning and ensure support plans are followed.
- Support staff development through supervision, mentoring, and modelling best practice.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and reviews.

Waking Night – Children’s Residential Home
Waking Night – Children’s Residential Home (Learning Disabilities & Complex Needs)
Location: Hucknall
Hours: 37 hours per week, averaged over the month (including weekends and bank holidays). Night shifts typically (7pm to 7am).
Contract: Permanent / Fulltime
Salary: 22,000-28,000 depending on experience.
Reports to: Team Leaders / Deputy Manager / Registered Manager
- Provide calm, consistent, and child-centred care throughout the night, including personal care and emotional reassurance.
- Support bedtime routines, promote healthy sleep, and maintain a sensory-aware, low-stimulation environment.
- Monitor and respond to the emotional and physical wellbeing of children overnight.
- Follow individual care plans, risk assessments, and sleep protocols to ensure personalised, safe support.
- Use appropriate communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS) and respect each child’s unique way of expressing needs.
- Carry out regular welfare and room checks, reporting any concerns in line with safeguarding policy.
- Complete domestic tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and preparing breakfast or education materials for the following day.
- Ensure the home is clean, safe, secure, and ready for both children and incoming staff.
- Administer medication (if trained) and carry out accurate counts of medication, petty cash, valuables, and sharps at the start and end of shift.
- Maintain clear, detailed records and deliver structured handovers to ensure continuity of care.
- Uphold high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory compliance at all times.
- Work in line with Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and Ofsted expectations.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete within 2 years)
- Experience working with vulnerable children or young people
- Strong communication skills and emotional resilience
- Understanding of safeguarding, trauma-informed care, and positive behaviour support
- A passion for making a difference in children’s lives
- Experience in residential childcare or waking night role
- Knowledge of learning disabilities, autism, sensory processing, or PBS
- Training in Makaton, PECS, first aid, or sensory integration
- Full UK driving licence.

- Support children with personal care, health needs, and daily routines in a respectful, empowering way.
- Be a positive role model, helping children build independence, develop life skills, and feel safe and nurtured.
- Use total communication approaches (PECS, Makaton, visual supports) and advocate for each child’s voice.
- Promote healthy routines and nutritious meals, involving children in meal planning and preparation.
- Plan and engage children in fun, creative, and meaningful activities that promote inclusion and development.
- Act as a key worker, building strong relationships and supporting multi-agency care plans.
- Safeguard children proactively and support behaviour positively using trauma-informed, attachment-aware approaches.
- Work as part of a team to ensure smooth and safe daily operations, including completing tasks and responsibilities during shifts.
